Creative Tech NZ

Creative Tech NZ explores how creative technology, assistive technology, AI and accessible design can improve the lives of disabled people, with a special focus on disabled children, families, whānau, educators and communities.

Technology, Creativity and Inclusion

Technology is changing the world, but it must not leave disabled people behind. Creative Tech NZ has been created to share ideas, tools, stories and resources that show how technology can support communication, learning, creativity, play, independence and participation.

This website is not only about new devices or digital trends. It is about real people and real outcomes. The right technology can help a disabled child communicate, a student access learning, a family discover new support, or a teacher create a more inclusive classroom.

Built From Lived Experience

Creative Tech NZ has been developed by Glen McMillan, a disabled disability advocate and CEO of Children with Disability NZ. The website is shaped by lived experience, disability advocacy, accessibility work and a belief that disabled people should be included in the design of the technology, services and systems that affect their lives.

Our focus is practical inclusion. We are interested in technology that helps people participate more fully in everyday life, whether that is at home, at school, online, in play, through creativity or within the wider community.

Technology Should Include Everyone

Creative Tech NZ believes technology should be accessible, creative and shaped by the people it is intended to support. When disabled people and disabled children are included from the beginning, technology can become a powerful tool for learning, communication, creativity, independence and belonging.
